Evocative, sometimes literal, every image tells a story. My favorites are the ones that leave a few gaps in the narrative, something for the imagination. Sometimes the goal is, "Leave nothing to the imagination." That's an insult (think Disney or ILM) unless you are showing someone how to change a heart valve or disarm an IED. This CD cover is about memory, especially long, old memory. I made all the pictures you see here. Click on any of them to see it larger, learn about its origins, and see many more illustrations. |

Concept sketches like these serve another purpose, which is to try an idea before you fully commit, the way Japanese puts its verbs at the end of the sentence so that the speaker can measure reactions before commiting to the end of a sentence. Ever notice that? Ruthlessly stealing imagery is part of concept development, then praying that the client has enough money to buy all the images you stole, or at least appreciate ($) the effort required to reproduce the salient qualities therein. |

See the animation page too. It's got even more pictures because to make animation you have to make even more pictures. |
